Sweden is the most sustainable tourist destination in the world

Global tourism: With Sweden in first place, followed by Finland, Austria, Estonia and Norway, Scandinavia ranked first in a new global survey on which countries in the world are the most sustainable tourist destinations.

The survey was conducted by international surveying firm Euromonitor International, which also showed that just over 66 percent of the world’s consumers want to behave more sustainably.

The result was published at the world’s largest travel fair ITB in Berlin yesterday, March 12th. The exhibition is completely digital this year.

Euromonitor International compared the sustainability of 99 countries in environmental, social and economic sustainability, transportation, housing, risks and demand for sustainable tourism.

Says Suzanne Anderson, chief executive of the Swedish marketing company Visit Sweden.

“Sweden’s noted focus on sustainability will be and remain a strong and enduring competitive advantage when global travel speeds up again.”

“We see that more and more countries, destinations and actors have realized the potential of more sustainable tourism, and there are currently significant investments and preparations around the world to be able to commercialize more sustainable experiences, when the time comes for that.” Susan Anderson continues.

Visit Sweden, a Swedish marketing company, has been consistently working to highlight sustainable tourism in Sweden in its communications to attract more tourists to Sweden.
