“We’ll need a longer program.” That’s what Piers Morgan, host of the popular morning show “Good Morning Britain,” tweeted before Monday’s airing.
Morgan, who was previously a critic of Meghan Markle, claimed on the show that Markle “spoke nonsense” in a famous Oprah interview when she claimed that the royal family, among other things, expressed concern that the couple’s son would have a darker skin tone in connection with her pregnancy the first.
Meghan Markle revealed in an interview with Prince Harry, Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, which aired on US television last night, Swedish time, that she felt isolated and lonely during her time in the British royal family.
During the interview, many other discoveries surfaced, including the couple’s relationship with several members of the royal family, about the baby they are expecting this summer and who is a girl. But it is the revelations of Markle’s mental illness and allegations of racist comments that are at the forefront of British news sites.
And according to The Independent, reactions from residents were strong. On social media, British citizens write, among other things, that they are “frustrated” and that the royal family “should be ashamed”. At the same time, there are similarities between Prince Harry’s mother, Princess Diana, and how she was treated by the royal family.
“This corrupt institution must be removed.”
Several well-known names came out on Monday to support the couple, according to Reuters. They include American tennis star Serena Williams and former tennis professional Billie Jean King.
The Republican group in Britain, which wants to abolish the monarchy, wrote in a statement: “The monarchy has just suffered its worst crisis since the abdication in 1936. Whether for Britain or for the heirs to the throne, this corrupt institution must disappear.”
Buckingham Palace has yet to comment on the Duke’s interview.
