Through Cementation Skanska, Skanska has signed an agreement with the joint venture company Skanska Costain STRABAG for major foundation works in the London Underground section of the HS2 High Speed Rail line, UK. The contract is valued at 93 million pounds sterling. The value of the outside part of the contract is 62 million pounds, which is approximately 720 million Swedish kronor, which will be included in the European purchase order for the second quarter of 2021.
Cementation Skanska will create one of the largest tongue pits in Europe – equivalent to the size of four soccer fields. The one-kilometer construction site will include lines entering Euston Station for the new HS2 high-speed rail. In total, approximately 2,000 pillars will be installed.
Skanska, as part of the Skanska Costain STRABAG joint venture, offers design and construction for the southern part of High Speed Project Two (HS2) in the first phase of a new UK high-speed rail line expansion. HS2 will provide approximately 555 kilometers of the new high-speed line and is expected to carry more than 300,000 passengers per day in fully operational condition. It will increase access across the country and help the UK reach its net CO2 emissions target by 2050.
