Nubia announced a powerful new smartphone with an unmistakable PC gaming product: Red magic 6. The company is also selling a sharper Pro model with 120W fast charging, 4,500mAh battery, plus 512GB storage and at least 18GB of RAM.
Otherwise, Red Magic 6 and Red Magic 6 Pro have the same specifications. Both storage and fast type RAM are UFS 3.1 and LPDDR5 respectively. The phone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor and has a 6.8 inch AMOLED display with FHD + resolution.
In the past, panels appeared in smartphones mainly because of their resolution and screen type, such as 1080p and OLED compared to LCD screens. Today, other aspects are becoming more prominent such as frequency of update and frequency of sampling. A higher sampling rate means the screen can respond to compression faster, while a higher refresh rate can lead to smoother animations.
Red Magic 6 offers a refresh rate of 165Hz, which is well above the more popular high variants we’ve seen so far (90Hz and 120Hz). The system can automatically switch between 30Hz, 120Hz and 165Hz. Sampling frequency is 500Hz for single finger use and 360Hz for multi-touch.
The Pro model has a 4,500mAh battery with 120W charging. The Regular Edition turned the tables: more capacity (5050mAh) but not nearly as fast charging (65W). For photography, a 64MP main camera, 8MP ultra-wide angle camera and 2MP macro camera are offered.
Another specialty is the gaming shoulder buttons, which have a 400Hz stacking frequency for faster input. Red Magic 6 also has an active fan that can, for example, cool the unit when playing challenging games. The top model with 18 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage costs the equivalent of 8,600 SEK in China. The predecessor Nubia Red Magic 5S came to Europe last summer, so it’s likely that the Red Magic 6 will also be released in Europe at a later time.
