If you encountered a Google Docs crash in recent days, you are not alone and now we know why these issues are occurring. Fortunately, the solution can be as simple as turning off an ad blocker.
Many users of Google Docs and Google Slides have encountered major problems – from text wrapping issues, in which words extend away from the document, to overlapping text, rendering documents and presentations unreadable.
Remy Berger, Google Drive Product Manager, confirmed Twitter The problem was due to changes from AdBlock and EasyList, adding that “unfortunately it is out of our control”.
If you are using an AdBlock browser extension, or an extension that uses blocking lists, the simple solution is to either whitelist Drive, Docs and Slides or simply disable the ad blocker until a permanent solution arrives.
If you encounter any margin or paragraph issues in Google Docs at the moment, it is due to recent changes made by getadblock / EasyList. Unfortunately this is out of our control. Either put https://t.co/YzuEBoCXg1 into your allow list, or disable ad blocker to fix it.April 14, 2021
AdBlock signed later Twitter It appears the problem originated from one of her service’s primary filter lists and they were working on a solution.
Later, they asked users to update their filter lists as a solution. In the company Twitter-konto AdBlock wrote: “Filter lists update automatically, but you can check them by going to Filter Lists> Update Now in the AdBlock menu.” You can find this under Advanced among the ad blocker settings.
Hello guys! If you are having trouble with Google + AdBlock Docs, updating your Filter List should set it right. Filter lists update automatically, but you can force them to go to Filter Lists> Update Now in the AdBlock menu. You can now return to your regularly scheduled programming. https://t.co/0RD7ZfsLUj pic.twitter.com/N0zV96TaJ5April 15, 2021
Other users reported that using Documents and Presentations in Incognito mode also fixed the problem, although this is probably due to the browser add-on blocking not working when you are in Incognito mode.
The problem also appears to affect those who use Chrome the most, so you can also try to open Google Docs or Slides in another browser as a quick fix.
