Zorn – Swedish star

Given the fact that it’s been 100 years since Anders Zorn’s death, the National Museum is showing a major exhibition on his art. With over 200 works, it will be the first really big presentation in Sweden in many years. In the exhibition, it is possible to follow Zorn’s professional and artistic development in two main parts, the first showing the period from 1878 to around 1900, and the second operating mainly from the latter part of Zorn’s life. The exhibition is a collaboration with Kunstmuseum Den Haag in the Netherlands where it will be shown in fall 2020, and Zornmuseet in Mora.

Snowcrash It was the name of a Finnish design gallery that turned into a Swedish design company. The National Museum displays the collection created between 1997-2003 for the first time. In the late 1990s, Finland and Sweden were seen as pioneers in the development of the Internet and wireless communications. Then the ideas for a mobile, connected and remote lifestyle were born. Snowcrash She experimented with technological hardware, software, natural and synthetic materials and created things that remind us of what is possible if you look to the future with optimism. Producing an exhibition based on the idea of Gustav Kjellen and Elka Sabanin in cooperation with the National Museum.

Scandinavian Design and the USA, 1890-1980 It examines how ideas and designs from the Nordic countries influenced American material culture and, conversely, how influences from the United States influenced the design of the Nordic countries. The exhibition is a collaboration between the National Museum, the National Museum in Oslo, the Milwaukee Museum of Art, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. More than 200 items are showcased on topics exploring migration and cultural heritage, diplomacy and trade, education and professional exchanges, as well as designs for a socially and financially sustainable future.
