In order to fulfill its commitments regarding vaccine delivery to the European Union, Astra Zeneca intends to supply vaccines from the US, UK and India.
Now we have received a message that the company will not release these doses but there is an export ban from the US and India, says Richard Bergstrom to TV4.
The fact that the vaccine cannot be delivered from the UK is due to contractual reasons.
The risk of cracking the target
The announcement means that there is now a risk that the Swedish vaccination goal of which all adults should have been vaccinated by the end of the first half of the year could not be achieved, says Richard Bergstrom.
Social Affairs Minister Lena Hallengren (S) and the government take the information very seriously.
“The Swedish government, municipalities and regions (SKR) have made it clear from the start that the combined vaccine target until the end of the first half of the year applies, provided that the vaccine deliveries are in compliance with the agreement.” She said in a written comment: “Information appears now that the export ban from India and the states is emerging. The United States means that deliveries from AstraZeneca will drop significantly in the spring. “
Target image may need revision
Hallengren further says that “what exactly is important for the rate of vaccination and the target of the vaccine cannot be said at the moment, but the target picture may need to be reconsidered.”
“We are analyzing the situation, we’re closely following it, and reviewing possible actions,” Hallingren says.
It is unclear how many few doses Sweden receives. But for Denmark, there are about 900,000 doses, according to the Statens Serum Institut, according to the Ritzau news agency.
